Inspiration in the 90's
In 1990, I was inspired to invent a better more positive, easy to fit, low coolant level alarm, as an aftermarket Improvement on the original equipment, to warn the driver, if a sudden loss of radiator coolant has occurred.

My sensitive coolant level probe is fitted to the highest point of the cooling system , it warns the driver immediately by a buzzer and red warning light, if a coolant loss has been detected, I say stop the engine, fix the leak.

My Invention
My AutoMinder low coolant alarm is independent of the vehicle's original warning system. It is not engine temperature related. It monitors at all times the amount of coolant in the radiator.
My very sensitive coolant level probe is fitted in the highest point of the cooling system in the top radiator hose, the driver is warned immediately by a buzzer and red warning light. If a coolant loss has been detected, stop the engine, fill the radiator, find the leak, and repair or replace faulty parts.

Protecting your Engine
Worn out engines are almost a thing of the past now, by using the new oils, lubricants, and engine coolants that are so good today. By servicing to auto manufacturers' recommended interval, one can expect a never overheated engine to travel at least 600,000km and show little wear to the major components, crank shaft, bearings, pistons, valves, rings, cam followers, etc. However this can change in seconds if the engine is overheated or has a complete melt down, due to a sudden radiator coolant loss.

The Short Life of an Engine

Most engines are destroyed from sudden loss of radiator coolant for the following reasons, Rats chewing hoses, burst or staked radiator or hoses, leaking heater hoses, leaking water pump, faulty radiator cap, or not secured properly, leaking head gasket, faulty thermostat, etc.
Red Light and Buzzer
At the turn of the ignition key AutoMinder warns the driver by “RED LIGHT AND BUZZER” if the coolant level has dropped below the sensitive probe, fitted to the highest point in the cooling system. Do not run the engine if the warning alarm has been activated, top up the radiator and the alarm will stop, find the coolant leak and fix before driving the vehicle.

A Kempsey inventor has won the best new product at the motor industry’s huge annual Sydney after sales motor show it has the potential to save motorist thousands of dollar in repairs.
The show is the annual industrial display of spare parts and accessories at the Sydney showground, by member of the Australian after market association.

No Warning for Benz

A tow truck arrived with an almost new Mercedes Benz 280S to my workshop with a seized-up engine, the radiator had lost all the coolant, caused by a rat chewing a hole in the bottom radiator hose. The owner had no warning of the engine overheating, causing his new car to slow down and finally seize up. With no coolant in the radiator, a steam trail was not detected to warn the driver what was happening. The dash temperature gauge was on zero, and of no use. With all engine coolant lost, the engine sender unit is also useless in this situation. It has to be immersed in coolant for it to work,

Rats, Mice and Radiator Hoses
Rats and Mice chewing through radiator hoses are Number 1 cause of sudden complete loss of coolant in parked or stored cars, trucks, tractors, 4x4s, classic and vintage cars, lawn mowers, RVs etc. From start up with no coolant in the radiator, the dash temperature gauge will continue to show zero, because the engine sensor has to be immersed in coolant, to make it register on the in cabin dash gauge. with all the coolant lost and no warning signs. The engine is in great danger of being destroyed if driven, from lack of information to the driver.
